Art Simmons
Arthur Eugene "Art" Simmons, born on February 5, 1926, in Glen White, West
Virginia, was an African-American jazz pianist. During World War II, Simmons
served in the army alongside James Moody and performed with military orchestras
across Europe before settling in Paris for over two decades. He studied at the
Conservatoire de Paris and became a resident pianist at the Ringside club (later
known as Blue Note). His notable collaborations included performances with Clark
