Areski Belkacem
Author, composer, musician and performer, Larezeki Belkacem, better known as
Areski, was born in Versailles on January 23, 1940. He began performing on stage
before meeting Jacques Higelin during his military service. This friendship led
to the 1969 album Higelin & Areski, released on the Saravah label, and the
meeting of Brigitte Fontaine, who became his companion and invited him to appear
on her avant-garde album Comme à la Radio, produced in 1970 with the Art
Ensemble of Chicago. After a joint show, Niok, at the Théâtre du Lucernaire,
Areski went solo, recording Un Beau Matin ...
