Anthony Collins
Anthony Vincent Benedictus Collins, born on September 3, 1893 in Hastings, East
Sussex, was a British composer and conductor. At 17, he began performing as a
violinist with the Hastings Municipal Orchestra before studying at the Royal
College of Music under Achille Rivarde and Gustav Holst. In 1926, Collins joined
the London Symphony Orchestra as principal viola, later moving to conducting and
composing film music. His career took off in Hollywood during World War II,
where he scored films such as Nurse Edith Cavell, Irene, and Sunny. He returned
