Born in Cardiff on September 15, 1975, Amanda Whiting is a Welsh harpist
specializing in jazz, renowned for her distinctive style blending classical
tradition, modal influences and contemporary groove. Trained at the Royal Welsh
College of Music and Drama, she began her career in the classical field before
turning to jazz, attracted by the freedom of improvisation and expressiveness of
the genre. She is particularly influenced by Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane,
two pioneering figures of the jazz harp, to whom she often pays tribute in her
