Alexander O’Neal, born on 15 November 1953 in Natchez, Mississippi, is an
American soul and R&B singer‑songwriter who began his career in the mid‑1980s.
After honing his craft in local gospel and R&B circles, he signed with Tabu
Records and released his self‑titled debut album on 8 March 1985, featuring the
single "If You Were Here Tonight", which reached the Top 10 on the U.S. R&B
chart. The following year he issued Hearsay (29 July 1987), produced largely by
Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and the singles "What Is It About You" and "You Made
Me Love You" both attained high positions...
