Alabama Shakes
Alabama Shakes formed in Athens, Alabama, in 2009 around singer and rhythm
guitarist Brittany Howard, lead guitarist Heath Fogg, bassist Zac Cockrell, and
drummer Steve Johnson. Initially performing as the Shakes, the group played
clubs across the southeastern United States and mixed original material with
covers of artists including Led Zeppelin, James Brown, Otis Redding, and AC/DC.
Their self-titled EP appeared in 2011 and helped secure deals with ATO Records
in the United States and Rough Trade in the United Kingdom. Following television
appearances on Later… with Jools Holla...
