A.S. Kang
Avtar Singh Kang, known professionally as A.S. Kang, is an Indian Punjabi singer
and folk musician born on 31 December 1949. After relocating to the United
Kingdom, he recorded the debut extended play Lut Ke Lehgai (1976). Kang was the
first UK-based solo Punjabi artist to release an album and the first to record
in India. He achieved professional recognition with the studio recording
Gidheyan di raniye (1978), which featured the track “Gidhian di rani” (1978)
produced by K.S. Narula. He toured North America and issued hit songs such as
